Dr. Ian McDonald obtained his BS from UNC Chapel Hill and his DDS from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry. While completing his DDS degree, Dr. McDonald focused on digital dentistry including digital impressions, digital photography and digital implant case reconstruction. Ian utilizes his skill of digital dentistry to enhance patient centered care by increasing patient understanding and decision making during treatment selection. Prior to dental school, Dr. McDonald was very active in the North Carolina Missions of Mercy (NCMOM)
While working as the Clinical Operations Manager for NCMOM, over five million dollars worth of free dental care was provided to NC residents. In 2012, Dr. McDonald organized a clinic in his hometown of Hickory in order to bring care to his own community. Dr. McDonald considers himself a native of Hickory as his family moved to the area in 1988 and he graduated from Saint Stephen’s High School in 2005. In 2017, Dr. McDonald has moved back home with his future wife, Janelle, and two cats, Pete and Abby.
Together, Janelle and Ian graduated from the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry in 2017, and they now are planning their wedding and creating a home and and a life within the Hickory Community
